Upon your first days at SAC, you were surely overwhelmed by the endless opportunities which allow you discover your hidden talents! So have you made your choice? Or are you still asking yourself whether it’s worth taking the risk? Here is some information which may answer some of your questions…

Science isn’t about why…it’s mostly about why not? So why don’t you take part in one of the following NSTF science programmes?

Young Enterprise

Do you think you have what it takes to build your own business from scratch? This programme enables students to develop their entrepreneurial skills by taking a business idea from conceptual ideology to reality!

Participants will form their very own enterprise, discover how a company works as well as elect a board of directors from amongst their friends. Each group will market and finance a product or service of their own choice.

Apply before the end of this month to take part in such a unique experience!

Malta Student Science Forum (M.S.S.F)

Students between the age of sixteen and twenty-two are now given the opportunity to compete within groups about current scientific affairs. Each team is asked to research, present and prepare a debate on a particular topic.

The programme is split up into 6 different sessions where all the contestants will be presented with a different topic every time. During each session, the teams will have to present their work in a 10-minute presentation as well as debate about various issues from a scientific, environmental and technological perspective.

Winners will be given a one-time opportunity to take part in the London International Youth Science Forum and the International Wildlife Research Week. Last year, two Aloysians stood among the winners. Who knows? Maybe in a couple of months you’ll be a winner too!

Contest for Young Scientists

Are you creative and adventurous? Why don’t you take part in the Contest for Young Scientists?

This programme encourages students to work either individually or, in groups, and develop their own original scientific or technological project.

All projects will be exhibited in the NSTF Science Expo which will be held in March. The team ranking in first place will be representing Malta at the EU Contest for Young Scientists later on during the year. Hurry and make sure that you hand in your application form before 14th November 2014!

NSTF Mini European Assembly

Participants taking part in this programme discuss, and debate, different European affairs through the political perspective of the European country they represent during different sessions. Each session will be addressed by a European personality, such as a Vice-President or a European Commissioner. Past participants guide new participants by enabling them to develop their public-speaking skills, research quality and most importantly, their team-work abilities.

Each team should be made up of six students who will be presented with a different topic every session. The participants are evaluated throughout the year by a panel of judges and the winners will be given the opportunity to participate in a Prize Tour to the major European Institutions in Brussels and Strasbourg. Students from SAC have won time and again…now it’s your turn to participate! The first step to succession is participation. Apply before the 17th of October. Hurry up there’s only a couple of days left!

Science Photo Contest

Are you the kind of person who loves observing life through the lens? The NSTF Science Photo Contest allows students to discover scientific phenomena through photography!

All you have to do is present a photo along with a title and a description. The pictures should depict natural life, any field of astronomy or any other scientific incident. Participants may compete through more than one photo.

The best photographs will be displayed during the NSTF Science Expo and the best entry will be awarded a camera. So what are you waiting for? Grab your camera and take your best shot!

So, have you decided yet?

Remember it’s not about perfection but it’s all about the effort you put into your work! Be original and creative! It’s ok to take risks once in a while!
