The Endless River

The 10th of November 2014 was a very important day for us modern rockers, and music lovers – a gift was bestowed unto us by the great rock giants Pink Floyd: their latest album The Endless River. It has been a long 20 years since we’ve heard of new sounds coming from these musical prodigies, and it’s finally here.

The 21-track album, almost purely instrumental, was written by Nick Mason and David Gilmour, who ensured that the band’s classical sound was well-preserved as well as modernised to offer us an intriguing piece of music. The album also includes pre-recorded material from Richard Wright, before his untimely death.

One can definitely notice that many of the ideas included in the album are similar to those found in the band’s previous album The Division Bell. Gilmour’s screaming guitar tones and the extensive use of synth-based sounds highly embellish the instrumental, atmospheric and ambient sounds which make up the whole album. The band’s creativity and innovation can definitely be heard when listening to the song, Talkin’ Hawkin, where they managed to include a short clip of Stephen Hawking’s voice which compliments the weeping guitar solo, playing in the background, along with the booming drum sounds produced by Nick Mason. The album’s main highlight is their 18th track Louder than Words, which speaks about the band’s outstanding 50 year journey, unfortunately brought to a sudden halt following the death of Rick Wright in 2008.

Both Gilmour and Mason believe that this album, will mark the end of Pink Floyd, and will be the last ever project created in the band’s name- sealing Pink Floyd’s long lifetime and preserving their never-ending legacy for the many generations to come.

Great job Pink Floyd, you’ve never been able to disappoint your fans.

"It's a very tempting thing to try and relive your glory days when you get a little older and you worry that people have forgotten all about you", David Gilmour.
